Running a Fleet – What is Needed?

Posted on December 17, 2017 at 10:13 am

Running a fleet of vehicles is no easy task. You will need to be a highly organised, focused person in order to take on the task. It’s not something just anyone can do, and some knowledge of cars is also preferable. Here are some of the main things you will need to be a successful fleet manager:

  • Organisation. You will need to be organised and methodical in your approach to fleet management. It simply won’t work if you aren’t organised.
  • A knowledge of cars and car maintenance. Whilst you don’t need to be a mechanic, you will need to know how to liaise with car garages, breakdown services etc. Some knowledge is going to come in useful.
  • Good communication skills. You will be talking to lots of different people, including the person who owns the cars as part of their company.
  • Reliability. People need to know they are getting the right information about their cars.

How to Choose a New Car – Style vs Practicality

Posted on November 30, 2017 at 9:55 pm

When choosing a new car, it can be so tempting to go for the shiny, new, pretty option. You need to remember the practicalities as well though – it needs to do what you need for it to do, otherwise it is a major waste of money. Think about your non negotiable points and have these ready to go when you are car shopping.

Size is a very important factor. Small sporty cars may look great, but they just aren’t going to be practical. This is especially true if you have a family and need to get car seats and baby carriers into the car. The bigger the vehicle, the better.

You should also think about running costs. Whilst a big engine and great horsepower may be tempting, it’s going to be so much more expensive to run a powerful car. It will need more fuel and won’t be especially efficient with it.

Posted on October 29, 2017 at 9:12 pm

If you own a car, ownership can sometimes be beset with problems. Cars are fundamentally difficult things and can present you with various issues during their lifetime. Here are some of the most common issues to look out for:

  • Problems with the brakes. You will often notice that something is going wrong when you press down on the brake pedal – the car may swerve a little of it might make a crunching noise. You might also notice the brake light ignite on your dashboard.
  • Engine issues. Look out for a smoking, overheating engine and listen out for different sounds that could indicate a problem.
  • Air conditioning problems. If you are lucky enough to have air con, keep an eye on how well it is functioning and get it recharged regularly.
  • Problems with oil or fluids. Look out for fluid underneath the car to alert you to any issues.

All these issues could represent many different problems. Talk to a mechanic for a definitive diagnosis.

Is PCP Finance a Good Option for you?

Posted on September 9, 2017 at 1:18 pm

PCP car finance can be a great option if you want a brand new car, lower monthly payments and a short-term finance deal. There are also some major drawbacks though, like the fact that you won’t own your car when the finance deal is complete. PCP can be a good decision, as long as you know what you are getting yourself into.

If you are interested in a PCP car finance loan, speak to your local dealer to see what they are able to offer you. If you are part exchanging a vehicle, this will also bring down your monthly payments. Do just bear in mind that you will not own anything at the end of your deal, so if you decide to give the car back, you have part exchanged a vehicle you owned and will have nothing to show for it. Go into the deal understanding the ins and outs and keep all relevant paperwork.

Choosing the Colour of your Car

Posted on August 6, 2017 at 9:45 am

Car colour is an important factor in your decision. Even if you are really limited in your choice and want to spend as small an amount as possible, you will still have preferences and may turn down certain cars depending on colour. For example, you may want the most basic car possible but you are not willing to buy it in beige. You need to consider where you draw the line and what is a reasonable decision.

If you want to get a bran new car, one of the main benefits is that you can choose the colour you want as well. Get a brochure and look at all the different options. Find out the prices as well – these can vary massively. White is the most popular option at the moment, so there is likely to be a premium on the price of a white car. If this is your choice, be willing to pay.
