As electric cars sales rise, here is a snapshot of costs to charge an electrically powered vehicle with a 60-kilowatt per hour (kWh) battery. The average range of an electric car is 200 miles.

Use a rapid charger point at a service station on the motorway (some supermarkets also provide this service); a 30-minute charge will give you approximately 100 miles and cost around £6.50.

There are some charging points in car parks and supermarkets that are free of charge, allowing you to top up while your vehicle is idle during your stay. Check if your workplace has an electric charging point, and this will usually be free to use and convenient to use when working.

If you charge your electric battery at home, achieving a full charge will cost around £7.80.

Charging your electric car at home is still the most cost-efficient and convenient way to maintain your electric powered vehicle at full charge. Most drivers will charge their vehicle overnight, so they have a full charge by morning.
